Hi Internet peoples!

I'm just your average college student who enjoys drawing and crafts. I'm an Industrial Design major and I live with my dog, Apollo, who, from time to time, watches me as I work.

I specialize in chainmaille, but I like to make other things as well! Check out my Etsy shop!

Fine art-wise, I mostly draw on my tablet (so digital art) but will try something different, such as painting, from time to time.

This blog may contain mild to explicit language (I will try to keep it at a minimum), artistic nudity, adult themes, and mild violence.

The quick 5-minute sketch design of the costume I wore for the anime convention this year. I designed the costume, my mom made the dress. Obviously, there was some conversing between when this was sent and the convention so the costume didn’t turn out EXACTLY as originally designed, but it turned out better I think! For one, Mom used feathers instead of fur for a fluffier look and I decided not to do the ribbon collar. There was also no fur on the bottom of the dress in the final design and I had found faux fur gloves afterwards so I didn’t go with the elbow-length gloves like what’s drawn here. For the most part though, the final design didn’t stray too far away from the original sketch.

  • How to pose…or at least how to not look awkward every time someone asks for a picture…
  • Makeup. I didn’t do TOO bad in the end but it took me a good long while to slather ick on my face every morning for the convention…
  • How to wear a wig…yeah, next costume requires a wig…
  • Gotta attend more events/panels…scheduling stuff this year kinda sucked
  • I wonder if there’s a way to reduce your sweating while you’re in costume and make up…I was very sweaty by the end of the convention!

I wish there were more anime conventions here to attend but then I’d be broke all of the time, I guess XD. Anyway, we’ve already started planning for next year and we figured out what we will be doing! We have decided on Miyazaki theme since my friend decided that we shouldn’t be from the same anime next year (but we still want to look like we’re connected somehow). I will be doing Totoro! It should be interesting and hopefully I can get everything figured out and designed within the next few months.

We will be making our second appearance as pokemon as well. Unfortunately, the gyarados headgear that I made in a hurry for my friend broke (luckily not until right after the convention though) so I’ll be making the gyarados headgear again this summer probably; but I have a whole year advanced notice this time instead of just a week so I should be able to order supplies and do things the way I wanted to do them to begin with and it should be much more stable!

Since the convention is done and over with now, I’ll probably post up the original 5 minute sketch design of the dress that I wore (I designed it, Mom made it).

Woot! It’s me! This is actually probably one of the better pictures of me…I think most people who took a picture of me caught me looking confused, nervous, or just plain awkward…

HI! My 2nd grader has to make a model of a katydid. Can you send me the steps to how you made yours?

Unfortunately, I don’t have all of the steps photographed and the way that I made mine involves hours of work in the woodshop with machines 2nd graders should not be handling. However, I CAN give you some tips and materials that would be relatively safe and easy to work with. Clay or paper mache’ is always an option and there is, of course, blue foam which you cut with a hot wire cutter and shape with rasps. If you want more of a wood feel, you can use balsa wood which can be cut with an xacto knife and shaped with sandpaper (it won’t look as good, but you can cut down the price a bit by using foam core, that presentation board stuff that can also but cut via xacto knife, in between the wood). I suggest making the body (wings and all) as one piece and the head as a separate piece. You can use dowel rods as the legs as I have, and as an added bonus, sewing thread can be glued on to the wings in interesting patterns for a more leafy effect (paint over it afterwards of course). Remember to gather lots of reference photos of katydids from all angles and have fun! I hope I helped some!
